Tablet medications

Amitiza
A medicatin for constipation-predominant IBS containing lubiprostone.

Buscopan
An anti-spasmodic drug containing hyoscine butylbromide.

Colofac
An anti-spasmodic drug containing mebeverine.

Dicetel
An anti-spasmodic drug containing pinaverium bromide.

Librax
A combination drug which contains an anti-spasmodic and an anti-anxiety drug.

Fiber supplements

Acacia fiber
A fiber supplement, manufactured by Heather Van Vorous, which is designed for sensitive IBS intestines.

Benefiber
A fiber supplement made from wheat dextrin.

Citrucel
A fiber supplement made from methylcellulose plant fiber.

Fibercon
A fiber supplement made from calcium polycarbophil.

Metamucil
A fiber supplement made from psyllium fiber.

General IBS treatments

Digestive Advantage
A supplement specifically designed for IBS.

IBS Audio Program
The IBS Audio Program is a self-hypnosis program which has been clinically proven to significantly IBS symptoms.

Peppermint oil
Capsules of peppermint oil have been shown to relax the spasms of IBS.

Diarrhea treatments

Caltrate Plus
A favorite within the online IBS community, Caltrate Plus contains calcium, a mineral which can be constipating.

Imodium
The old standby for diarrhea.

Lomotil
An old but still effective medication for diarrhea sufferers.

Questran
Often used following gallbladder removal.

Constipation treatments

Dulcolax
The original Dulcolax is a stimulant laxative, but stool softener, suppository and polyethylene glycol 3350 versions are also available.

Milk of magnesia
Known as one of the more gentle laxatives, but still effective for some sufferers.

Miralax
An osmotic, OTC laxative that draws water into the intestines.
