Feeling a bit more cheery now. Oh the wonderful cycle of pain that is IBS.
Stomach is still being slightly bizarre, but at least it has stopped being painful. If IBS was only about stomach discomfort and weird gurgling noises (like I’ve got at the moment) then that would be no problem – it’s the PAIN that really grinds you down.
Luckily I don’t get pain more than perhaps three or four days a month now, but my stomach does have a comprehensive range of oddities which it uses to fill in the in-between times.
Take yesterday for example. No pain, but for about two hours in the afternoon it kind of felt like I had a balloon being inflated and then deflated and then inflated again in my lower intestine.
As far as I am aware I don’t keep any balloons in my lower intestine, so God knows what was causing that.
I’ve also been getting these kind of mini spasms where I can feel a small section of intestine wake up, perform a high-energy section from ‘Grease’, and then go back to sleep again.
I have startlingly original bowels.

Dear Sophie,
It has been such a relive to read your story, i have IBS foe over 20 years it comes and it goes when it comes it stays for 2-3 months and then it goes, under stress [my life is full of stress] my IBS has been like yours, the last 2 attacks it became diarrhora, late last year I have had a colonscopy and it all fine, now with this attack I am so worried I have been to doctor, gave me some imodium but one day it work and the next does not work, why is that? I am so scared to eat anything, I keep say this is no good and this is good I have been under tromendous stress latly… I just want reassurance…..I feel really depressed the more I have the diarrhora the more depreesed I become , and the more I depressed the worse the diarrhora….. Do you have any tip I can use to stop it or make it better. thank you Widad Colley
Hi Widad,
I’m sorry to hear you’re a fellow sufferer – we IBS people need to stick together! I can’t offer you any tips though I’m afraid. I do understand why people sometimes ask me for advice in managing their own IBS, but to be honest if I had a car that wouldn’t start I wouldn’t try to get it fixed by a guy whose car wouldn’t start, had smoke coming out the hood and was covered head to toe in years-old rust!
After having a colonoscopy, my intestines sounds like Niagra Falls. It goes on all day and all night. I haven’t been back to my doctor yet, but I am. I have a hiatal hernia and life has been miserable the past few months for a person who has never been sick in his life, other than a cold or what not. I think I have stones as well. The pain, the nausea, and throwing up.
