So, I've completed the first chapter of my IBS podcast, hurrah! It was OK technically, think I've got the hang of it, but it was harder than I expected to just read something out without tripping over your words.
You can download the file as an MP3 thingie, which will run on itunes or an ipod if you have it, or if not I can also get it to run on Windows media player or Realplayer, so it looks like most modern audio/visual players these days will run MP3s.
If anyone would like to test it out, that'd be great! Mainly I'd like to know if it works on your computer, and whether the sound quality seems good enough. After that, if there's anything else you want to comment on then please do, either as a comment on this blog entry or email me if you would prefer.
The plan is to (gradually) transfer my whole IBS and Me story onto podcast, and then maybe make the first chapter available to everyone and all of the chapters available to people who join the mailing list.
Anyway, here it is...let me know what you think! You can either download the MP3 to your desktop and listen to it that way (right-click on the file and choose "Save target as") or just click on the file, and on my computer this makes it run within Internet Explorer. Who knows what it will do on your computer, it may open the door to the underworld, but it might be worth a try if you like.

Hi Sophie,
I tested the file out earlier, just clicked on it and my computer opened it up straight away, very easy and sounded really clear so result me thinks!
I haven't been able to listen all the way through as my work colleagues were around (how inconsiderate!), but I'll give it another go a bit later on...and don't worry you don't sound like a chipmunk or an axe murderer!
That was fantastic sophie, look at you gettin all high tech!!!!!!! It sounds really clear. This is the way forward defintly.
That was great. File opened immediately. Your voice carries just the right mix of emotion and a descriptive cadence. I have suffered since my teens, but it has become less severe as I've aged (though no less uncomfortable when it does strike) into my fifties.
Terrific, mp3, Sophie. How I envy your fantastic British accent! I could so relate to everything you said about camp. Although my IBS didn't hit until I was 19 it did cause me many problems in university. I was constantly dashing into bathrooms or suffering from constipation, not to mention the tormented noises my stomach started to make at pretty much any time of day.
You did a great job at conveying the interruption that IBS causes daily life.
Sophie, it sounds great, well done. How often are you planning on releasing them?
You do have the tone just right.
Can you do the one of the 10 things about IBS that people don't know... was it questions or something about doctors? I remember there was a really useful page to send to people who didn't understand, as a good quick guide. Just an idea!

Thanks guys! Pinky, I'm planning on doing my "Top 10 Stupid Things People Say to IBS Sufferers and the Reasons Why They're So Dumb" as the next podcast, hopefully over the next week. I want to get my whole story on podcast but it might take a while...
Wonderfully clear Sophie, nice to hear what you sound like :-)
For those who don't use IE or indeed Windows...
Firefox downloads this as normal by doing save as or clicking it. Under linux it will run really well with Xmms.
