Just a small warning to anyone who uses Digestive Advantage IBS – for some unfathomable reason the manufacturers seem to have changed their formula to a sugar-free version, which means that the product now includes sucralose, an artificial sweetener.
This is a very odd decision because IBS patients are often very sensitive to artificial sweeteners, and lots of people advise against using them in tea and coffee etc. Why a company would start adding them to a product made specifically for IBS sufferers is a bit of a mystery, to say the least…
I have written to the manufacturers, Ganeden Biotech, to see if they can shed any light on the matter. In the meantime, if you do use Digestive Advantage it might be worth checking the ingredients list, and if your pack contains sucralose then just be on the lookout for any changes in symptoms. It may not affect you at all, but it’s something to keep in mind.
This is a shame really as Digestive Advantage IBS is probably one of the most highly-rated products on my IBS Treatment site, and I usually hear very good things about it. Maybe if the manufacturers get inundated with “Why oh why” messages from IBS people they’ll quickly change it back…

Hi Sophie
What utter … well, words fail me! I thought I was the only one sensitive to artificial sweeteners (such as aspartame, etc.) ‘cos they make my runs/pain worse. But for a medical manufacturer to start using them in their products – !!! No doubt it’s cheaper for them, I wonder?? Food (WITHOUT the artificial sweeteners though!) for thought!
Keep up your good work and your ability to bring a smile to my face!
Yes, it’s one of those unanswerable questions, isn’t it? I’ve also been reading on the forum about SIBO, which has the main IBS symptoms I do, and the opinions that it can both be (1) caused by antibiotic use but (2) treated by antibiotic use. Hmm? Ah….what a world!
Stupid, stupid decision.
I am sorry I haven’t visited you lately, I have been crazy busy on this side of the world
Take care, xoxo
Is Digestive Advantage available in the uk?
Hi Jackie – have a look at my FAQ page on IBS Tales: http://www.ibstales.com/articles.htm
I,too, thought it was just me, but am now learning that alot of products I used with Nutrasweet (aspartame) have switched to Splenda (sucralose). After realizing that the pain and diahrrea I suffered was caused because of this, I am just angry now that companies making products with sucralose, and not aspartame anymore didn’t even have to note the change on the label. Where is the FDA for this?
