Fluoride in the water

| | Comments (0)

Do you remember the story of the Princess and the Pea? I can't quite remember the plotline, no doubt something to do with a knight and shining armour and all that stuff, but the basic idea was that the real Princess was the only one who could feel a pea even when she was sat on 10 mattresses and a camel. Something like that.

Why that was a useful talent I don't know, but I'm like that. Or at least my stomach is. Give it anything even remotely unusual or chemical or medicinal and it immediately knows and normally complains.

I started using mouthwash a few weeks ago and noticed that my stomach complained pretty loudly. When I stopped using the mouthwash the stomach seemed to work again.

Coincidence? Maybe. Or maybe it's the fact that the mouthwash contains fluoride, something which has been blamed for GI disorders. The trouble is that fluoride is not just in mouthwash - it's in almost all toothpastes, and a lot of places just bung it right there in your drinking water.

I'm thinking of trying a non-fluoride toothpaste to see how that goes. Or maybe I'll just get 10 mattresses and a pea. And a camel.
